Frequently asked questions
Is the app free?
Yes. Nozawa Onsen is free, with no ads, no in-app purchases, and no subscription.
Do I need an account?
No. The app does not have user accounts. You are anonymous to us.
Why do you ask for location and camera permission?
Location is used to center the map and hand off to Apple/Google Maps for directions. Camera is used by the AR feature for finding ski trails. Both are processed on-device only — nothing is sent to our servers. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Why is the lift status showing "Unknown" or empty?
Lift data is scraped from the official Nozawa Onsen Snow Resort website three times a day. Outside the ski season (typically May through November), all lifts are off, and the app automatically switches to Green Season mode showing summer activities instead.
Why don't all four resorts have live data?
Only Nozawa Onsen Snow Resort has full live lift status. Togari Onsen, Madarao Mountain, and Snow Resort Romance no Kamisama show photo cards but no live data — adding them is on the roadmap.
How accurate is the restaurant / activity information?
We verify each entry against the operator's official site and Google Places. Hours and prices change without notice — always confirm directly with the operator before relying on them. The app is an informational guide, not a booking platform.
The news is in English. How is it translated?
News articles from the resort and tourism association are translated by an AI summarizer (Google Gemini). Each card links to the original Japanese source so you can verify if needed.
Is this an official app?
No. Nozawa Onsen is an independent travel guide published by Studio Hedera. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nozawa Onsen Village, Nozawa Onsen Snow Resort, or the Nozawa Onsen Tourism Association.
