Frequently asked questions
Is the app free?
Yes. Myoko is free, with no ads, no in-app purchases, and no subscription.
Do I need an account?
No. The app does not have user accounts. You are anonymous to us.
Why do you ask for location and camera permission?
Location is used to center maps, show distances to lifts and onsen, check you in at stamp-rally spots, and hand off to Apple/Google Maps for directions. Camera is used by the AR finder to overlay trail and place markers on your view of the mountain. Both are processed on-device only — nothing is sent to our servers. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Why is the lift status grey or "Not reporting"?
Lift status is summarized from public resort announcements up to three times a day during the ski season. Outside the season (roughly May through November) the resorts stop reporting, so the app shows a neutral state instead of pretending to have live data.
Are the bus positions real GPS tracking?
No — and the app labels them "SCHED" for that reason. Bus positions are estimated from published timetables so you can see roughly where a bus should be. A real bus can run early, late, or be cancelled. Winter resort shuttles only operate during the ski season; always check the operator's notice board for the current year's dates.
How accurate is the restaurant / onsen information?
Every entry is verified against the operator's official site, tourism sources, and Google Places, and many are checked again each season. Hours and prices in a small mountain town change without notice — several places are winter-only or close when snow melts. Always confirm directly with the operator before making a special trip.
Which resorts are covered?
Akakura Onsen, Akakura Kanko, Ikenotaira Alpen Blick, Myoko Suginohara, Seki Onsen, and Lotte Arai Resort — with weather, snowfall, trail maps, and seasonal lift status for each.
Does the app work offline?
Mostly, yes. The curated guides (onsen, restaurants, activities, photo spots) and the Essentials page (emergency numbers, clinics, ATMs, taxis) are bundled with the app and work with no connection. Weather, radar, lift status, and live place search need a network.
Is this an official app?
No. Myoko is an independent travel guide published by Studio Hedera. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Myoko City, the Myoko Tourism Bureau, or any of the resorts it describes.
I found a mistake. How do I report it?
Please email info@studio-hedera.com with the section name and what's wrong. Corrections from locals and travelers make the guide better for everyone.
What iPhone do I need?
The app requires iOS 18 or later (iPhone XS / 2018 and newer). The AR finder additionally needs a device with a rear camera.
